Jesus
Christ Superstar |
Multi
level set constructed with a steel frame, ladders, etc to give
a modern feel to this musical. It also included thirteen foot
high flats for the wings, painted to look like roman pillars,
and pedestals with poles for dancers to do pole dancing on the
top of.
The
finale included a fourteen foot tall working cross which raised
Jesus off the ground. The cast then put ladders against the cross
to ‘cut’ him down and lift him off. |

Little
Shop of Horrors |
Set
constructed of MDF flats built in my workshop and then bolted
and screwed together on site in one day, which included lighting
and sound engineers setting up their lights and equipment.
The
working plants (Audrey 2) were built from a steel frame with foam
and cloth covering and capable of eating their victims. |

Mother
Goose Uncovered – the pantomime. |
Set
built in a drama studio with a strange layout. It is strange because
there is only one door to the studio, apart from a fire door,
which everyone (actors and audience) has to use. There is also
a spiral staircase to work round.
A castle keep was constructed complete with
working drawbridge turrets, etc on one side of the set and high
level walkway across the back of the set which was made to look
like the castle ramparts.
This
basic frame was scaffolding covered with MDF flats so you could
not see the scaffolding.

Daisy
Pulls it Off |
As
there are only two main scenes, inside and outside the school,
I developed and built a system of rotating flats, so the scene
change could be achieved in about ten seconds.
The
railway scene was achieved by building a two carriage train which
was hauled across the set by the stage hands using a long rope,
who allowed it to stop at the imaginary stations

Oklahoma |
A
rotating ranch/barn was constructed together with windmill, etc. |
| 2002 |
Cinderella |
Built
in a hall without a stage. A scaffold frame was erected from which
I hung seven painted backcloths which were raised and lowered
for scene changes. It also supported lights and an opening and
closing curtain. |

Midwitch
Tales |
This
production only performed 4 or 5 of the fourteen tales. This required
‘heaven’ and ‘hell’ being constructed on opposite sides of the
stage.
Heaven
was a circular podium under lit with pink lighting coming through
a clear floor, together with high gauze curtaining wafted by fans
and lit with high level pink lights.
Hell
was a total contrast constructed of barrels, netting, etc., which
the actors could crawl through with garish green and purple lighting. |

Grease |
Highlight
of the set was the ability to push a real car through the audience,
turn it around and push it back out again. This was achieved by
building a trolley on which the car sat with suitable castors
for the floor and weight of car. |
